School Visits

Since March 2023, Dead Poets Live have been performing in schools across the UK, with a succession of regional tours that have taken us from the North-East of England to the South-West, from East Anglia to South Wales.

We have written several lesson-length shows – the most popular titled ‘What is Poetry?’ – devised specifically for those in Years 7 and 8. These are supposed to serve as an introduction to poetry, so that students have a sense, at the outset, of why, historically, globally, poetry matters.

Our shows are thought-provoking, but fun, with a continuous element of audience participation, and crucially, from the point of view of the schools we visit, entirely free.

If you would like your school to be one of those we visit, or have any further questions, please get in touch via our Contact form.

Testimonials
Year 7 were enthralled and delighted. This highly interactive, energising and informative introduction to nonsense poetry, delivered by dynamic young actors, supercharged our unit on poetry.
— Mr Minden (Cardinal Newman's Catholic School, Brighton)
Highly interactive with lots of audience participation, professional actors [...] A really uplifting way to spend the afternoon. Thank you to Dead Poets Live for this valuable enrichment opportunity.
– Ms Lynch, Eggars School, Hants
Dead Poets Live made our Year 7s come alive like I've never seen before. Our students were transfixed by what they saw on stage. Dead Poets brought them something magic and extraordinary; they made them laugh and got them asking questions about language and poetry and how we communicate, questions we rarely have time to explore with them in the confines of a classroom.
— Ms Lyons (Mossbourne Community Academy, London)
Dead Poets Live delivered an engaging and inspiring Year 8 assembly at Goffs that truly brought poetry to life. The performance was energetic, interactive and perfectly pitched for our students, capturing their attention using a great deal of humour from start to finish. Students left the assembly with a greater appreciation of poetry and literature, as well as increased confidence in exploring creative expression themselves. The presenters were professional, passionate and highly effective in making classic poetry accessible and exciting for a modern audience. We would highly recommend Dead Poets Live to any school looking to enrich their students’ experience of English and the arts.
– Ms Enstone, Goffs Academy, Cheshunt
Highly engaging. Despite minimal set up, they deliver maximum impact! [...] Students were taken on a journey through time – from early man to present day, exploring how poetry has been used to bring our experiences and emotion to life. Students 'visited' different countries with humour, intrigue and respect for other cultures. The audience participation was absolutely the crowd favourite each time! Despite the fun and interaction, the actors maintained control of the students (no mean feat with 300 children in a room!) and instilled a sense of love of poetry that many may not have felt before. Thank you, Dead Poets Live – see you again next time!
– Ms Bell, Thurston Community College, Suffolk
